Courier Mobile

Ardas mobile team has developed Android and iPhone applications for couriers. The application allows users to publish location and availability data in real time. The capabilities help users to sell their services in a more efficient manner. For example, couriers can receive notifications about jobs near their location. This is especially important when the courier has an empty vehicle on the way back form completing one job and another job arises. It is almost clean profit.

GPS or data from cell towers is used to receive location information. The primary reason for developing native applications on Android and iPhone instead of web applications is for location tracking. Development has been finished without any surprises and gave us a lot of pleasure. The only significant delay with the iPhone version release was related to Apple´s approval of the procedure and their requirement to remove all links from the application. For example they didn’t want to approve link to ‘Terms & Conditions’ on the customer’s website.

But it seems the most vivid memories we received from tracking testing on the devices was the QA engineers learnt all their team members routes from home to office and discovered all issues with cell network coverage and GPS satellites visibility along those routes :)

Lean software development methods allowed us to develop the product quickly and even more importantly the product was exactly what our customer and their users needed. Thanks to our customers who instantly testing published releases. The immediate attention and invaluable feedback made our work very productive and gave us the ability to improve the application very quickly.
